From the Producers (12/26)
Earlier in the year, when we made the decision to bring TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical to the stage, we knew that we would face challenges along every step of the way. Predictable as this fact was, what was unpredictable was the nature of those challenges.
In November, we launched a public Kickstarter campaign to bring our show to the Off-Broadway, and we’d like to take this opportunity to offer an explanation for the confusion about this campaign’s fate.
While it was a campaign that started with pride, despite the initial push and the wide reach we achieved across social media, it quickly became clear to us that we had got something wrong and we knew that as producers we had a responsibility to ensure we did what was best both for our show and our backers. After careful consideration, we decided to bring our campaign to an early end.
Our decision to end our campaign was not one that we made on the back of a lack of confidence in the show or our decision to raise the funding to bring it to the stage through crowdfunding, but rather it was a decision we made because we knew that our backers, both current and potential, and the show itself deserved better from us.
As part of our decision to use crowdfunding to give our show life we recognize that one of the most vital commitments that we must make is to be open and honest with all — whether they support us, criticize us, or simply come across us with indifference. That is why we write this letter. We are not ashamed that our first efforts did not go as well as we would have liked because we can stand tall now and say that getting it wrong once will not stop us from getting it right the next time.
TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical is certainly not over, and in a few weeks time, as we go into the new year, we will be relaunching our Kickstarter campaign and our efforts to bring the show to the Off-Broadway stage.
To ensure that this fresh attempt is best placed to achieve the success that its predecessor could not, we have been working tirelessly to refine and simplify our message while also making the changes necessary to engage new audiences with improved targeting to translate support into campaign pledges — and we would like to formally offer our thanks to the professionals on Broadway in New York and the West End in London who have offered their advice and input over the past month to help us identify and make the necessary changes.
Among the revisions those familiar with our first campaign will see is an overhaul of the tickets available as rewards for our backers, with improvements to the process to make it easier for groups to see the show together, the introduction of corporate ticketing packages, a simplified rewards system, and a redesigned website, all of which have been undertaken based upon the feedback we have received from our first campaign.
Additionally, a number of changes have also been made to the makeup of our production team, with two associate producers no longer working alongside us. While this may leave us as a core team of just three, we are a team that has only bonded more closely as a result and developed a new respect for each other and our respective talents. There truly is nothing like theatre for bringing people together and no other work environment that allows complete strangers to go from as much to close friends in such a short time, and this is an experience we look forward to sharing with others as our team expands in the months to come.
As the producers of TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical we are proud to say with confidence that in 2019, we are going to get this right, and while we make our final preparations to do so over the following weeks, we wish all our supporters and their families the happiest of holidays,
— we look forward to seeing you in 2019!
