A Letter From the Production Team of TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical Off-Broadway
Updated: Dec 10, 2018
The production team of TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical have today released the following open letter.
October 1, 2018
It is the very definition of satire that it is a form of comedy. It is a joke. It is a laugh. It is something that is not meant to be taken seriously. But it that definition which means that in the world’s current political climate, it is a vital part of everyday life and discourse.
Every single day, no matter the country we live in or the background we have, we are seeing actions being taken that we not only disagree with, but are concerned by, disgusted by, and in some cases, scared by. Not only for ourselves, but also for those we know personally and those we don’t know but still care for out of humanity and decency.
It is this concern, disgust, and fear which gives us emotion, and it is such emotion that makes us feel anger and strength. Together, emotion, anger, and strength can lead to great things, and it can lead to true change for the better because it helps a person care.
At the same time, it is important to hold those already trying to bring about change for the worse to account, and to help others understand and become engaged in the issues of the day — this is where satire plays a vital role.
A form of art which can retain the attention of an audience established from all demographics, satire can break down the barrier between established corruption and inaction on the facts, and the individual. Satire can bring the bubble of political events to a non-political audience and spur them to care. This is a craft of dexterity that can take hold of the issues that the mundane politician choose to overlook or cover up, and trust it into the wider view — this is where satire plays a vital role.
We do not pretend to present an accurate or complete portrait of the facts in TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical but we do commit to producing a raw manifestation of recent events that presents both a gravely necessary offering of comic relief to our audiences and a reminder that no individual is above the jurisdiction of mockery and satire.
TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical is something we want to bring to as wide an audience as possible, and that is why we want to have our audience involved right from the start. We invite you to review our plans, ask us questions, and if you like what we have planned, join our Kickstarter campaign not only as a backer but as a part of this production’s family.
We look forward to seeing you in our audience,

Featuring 62 individual characters and hundreds of individual jokes, gags, puns and satirical one-liners presented by a company of fifteen, TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical is a show where no-one is spared.
